Most Common Issues With Land Rover Vehicles

Land Rovers are stunning vehicles and a staple for those wanting an off-road vehicle that can handle all the bumps and jolts of off-roading, as well as everyday road driving. These vehicles have proven themselves time and time again as a great vehicle option and even now, are some of the most sought-after modern SUVs around, but they certainly aren’t without their problems. Whether it’s air suspension issues or airbag-related recalls, we’ve put together a list of some of the most commonly reported concerns by existing owners that you may face.

Air Suspension

When it comes to driving an off-road SUV, air suspension is everything and in most cases, Land Rover really do get it right. However, there have been reported issues with the air suspension on some Land Rover models. Medium reported that Land Rover’s air suspension “frequently develops air leaks” though it “often happens gradually over time.” (https://medium.com/@brooklynmotorsny/the-3-most-common-land-rover-problems-and-their-solution-438617381cb1) Without proper care and maintenance for these leaks, you could have a more pressing issue on your hands – complete suspension breakdown. More intense testing and engineering was conducted as a result and it may have solved this problem but for current Land Rover owners of the affected models, you could find that your air suspension needs replacing with a more traditional system as a result.

Electrical Problems

When it comes to the electrics in any vehicle, it’s no surprise that we all want some level of reliability and while Land Rover’s are typically reliable vehicles in this regard, there have been a number of complaints worth noting. HotCars report that there was even a recall released for some vehicles built between 2019 and 2021, as in some conditions, “they had seen cars lose all electrical functionality.” (https://www.hotcars.com/common-problems-range-rovers/#electrical-gremlins) Other owner complaints have revolved around faults in the electrical system causing leaks within the oil system, as well as problems such as head gasket failures, problems with the heater core and more.

Sunroof Leaks

A sunroof in your vehicle can be a great feature to have, offering a bit of extra light in the vehicle and another point from which air can circulate on those particularly hot days, but when things are wet and gloomy, we expect the sunroof to keep the water out. Land Rover sunroofs have been reportedly known to leak over time, usually far before the 55,000-mile expected lifespan. According to Lake City AutoCare, the most common cause of this in a Land Rover is “a pinched drain, which allows water to bypass the seal and enter the cabin.” (https://lakecityautocare.com/top-6-common-land-rover-problems/)

Airbag Recall

The Takata airbag recall has affected a number of different vehicle manufacturers, and Land Rover, again, are no exception. LandRoverProblems report that owners of a 2007-2012 Land Rover Range Rover may be affected by this recall, which was put into place following evidence of faulty and defective airbags. Takata’s airbags and inflators “become unstable over time and can rupture/explode during airbag deployment” which can “shoot metal fragments into the cabin.” (http://www.landroverproblems.com/takata/, 2018) The problem is a serious one, so it’s important to check if your vehicle is part of the recall, and have the airbags replaced if necessary.
