The Most Common Problems with SEAT Vehicles

With a solid foothold in 70 countries worldwide, SEAT has more than proven they hold a significant stake in the automotive market and the UK’s market is no exception. Known for a vast range of vehicles from cars perfect for first-time drivers, to SUVs, Estate cars and more, SEAT are a staple on UK roads – however, like all manufacturers, SEAT vehicles have faced various challenges over time, with owner complaints and recalls creating uncertainty around the brant. In this guide, we’re exploring what some of these issues are and how SEAT have approached the concerns, as well as how we can help you with your vehicle if you run into any worries.

Rough Idling

SEAT owners have reportedly faced issues when it comes to their vehicles idling – specifically, issues relating to a rough or jump idle. According to MotorandWheels, “some SEAT Arona and Ibiza models have been known to have run a bit rough,” with the issue seeming to stem from worn parts, with “replacing the coil pack” seeming to have worked in most cases (https://motorandwheels.com/problems-with-seat-cars/). The cause is unknown and whether this is a widespread issue or simply a run of people with these models needing replacement parts due to general wear and tear is unclear.

Windscreen Wash Failure

SEAT owners have also reported concerns about the failure of their windscreen wash jets. Faulty windscreen wash systems can be dangerous while out on the road if you are unable to clear your windscreen when needed, and this is therefore one issue that shouldn’t be overlooked. MotorAndWheels also reported that “the SEAT Ibiza has a problem with the windscreen washers that sometimes fail to work,” with the jets seeming to fail “even if there is enough water in the reservoir.” Another issue with seemingly different causes for different drivers, it has been reportedly caused by pipes cracking during extreme weather, or in some cases, hiccups with the electrical system.

Airbag Recall

SEAT released a recall for 142,266 Leon and Toledo vehicles, specifically those built between 2013 and 2017 worldwide. According to Car-Recalls.eu, the recall was issued due to “a fault in the gas generator of the driver’s airbag” which can ultimately lead to “uncontrolled deployment” and the “release of metal fragments” upon deployment (https://car-recalls.eu/seat-leon-toledo-fault-drivers-airbag-gas-generator-kba/). This issue is set to be solved through the replacement of the driver’s side airbag.

Loose Partition Grid

The SEAT Leon, specifically models built between 202 and 2022, have been recalled by the manufacturer due to an issue with the partition grid holder. With 11,110 cars affected, Car-Recalls.EU report that “in the event of an accident, there is a possibility that the load in the luggage compartment could shift towards the partition grid” and as a result the bracket could “detach from the body due to poor riveting.” (https://car-recalls.eu/seat-leon-partition-grid-holder-loose-kba/). The issue seems to be resolved by tightening the rivets fully. A simple fix, but one that is worth keeping an eye out for if you have an affected model.
