The Most Common Problems With Saab Vehicles

While Saab may not be an active manufacturer today, their vehicles are still found on UK roads in the hands of dedicated owners and used-car enthusiasts. With a decent collection of models and variations spanning from as early as 1946 through to 2011 (with more produced under NEVS in 2013 and 2014), Saab has earned a place as a known brand here in the UK, but they aren’t without their faults. From owner reports to recalls and reports, here are some of the most common problems with Saab vehicles:

Saab 9-3

The Saab 9-3 has been reported as having a few key issues that have plagued owners over the lifespan of the vehicle. Despite being one of the best-selling models and known as a dependable and reliable sedan, owners have reported issues with a few different systems. According to GetJerry, the 9-3 “commonly has issues with the anti-brake system, traction control and coolant loss.” (https://getjerry.com/car-repair/common-problems-with-saab#what-are-the-most-common-saab-problems) The anti-brake system in particular seemingly has issues with the wiring, with corroded wiring causing “the failure of both the anti-brake system and the traction control.” Without these key systems, driving on wet or loose surfaces can be incredibly dangerous. The 9-3’s engine block is also known as being porous, which makes leaks and coolant loss a higher likelihood than in other systems. This can be repaired by a mechanic, so if you’re experiencing this issue, it’s important to get in touch with our team soon.

Saab 9-5

The Saab 9-5 is another model that, while reliable in many ways, isn’t completely immune to various issues. Owners have reported issues with the ignition cassette, throttle body and experienced oil leaks. According to MotorAndWheels, the oil leak in particular seems to come from “excessive internal oil pressure” and the ventilation kit did nothing to address the issue. Saab 9-7X

The 9-7X is another model that, while a staple choice for owners, has reportedly experienced issues over its lifespan. According to GetJerry, the most common issue with the Saab 9-7X is reported as being “a sagging rear suspension” that typically is repaired by having “suspension sensors recalibrated to fix this issue.” (https://getjerry.com/car-repair/common-problems-with-saab#are-saab-cars-reliable) There have also been reports that “the car’s all-wheel-drive is… known to malfunction, turning on and off unexpectedly.”
