Alfa Romeo vehicles have long been known for their luxury and style. They are some of the most popular and sought-after cars not only in the UK but across the world. However, while they definitely hold their own in the luxury vehicle market, owners have reported that they aren’t without their faults. From technical problems at 40,000 miles to a number of recalls over the years, we’re taking a look at some of the most common issues that Alfa Romeo owners face with their cars.
Recalls
In 2021 alone, the Alfa Romeo Giulia and the Stelvio faced a number of recalls for various issues relating to their fuel systems, brakes and airbag-related problems. The Giulia saw two recalls across 2021 via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, one for fuel system failure and another for problems with the braking system. The Stelvio was recalled three times, one for the fuel system, another for brake failures and the third for the airbags failing to deploy. There were also several recalls for vehicles in 2020 for disc brakes, in 2019 for brake problems and issues with the electrical systems, in 2018 for brakes and engine coolant problems and in 2017 for brake issues. Premature Technical Problems
While we never want to face technical problems with our vehicles, it’s a given that there will be a certain amount we have to deal with as our car ages. For owners of the 2018 Giulia Quadrofiglo, this problem reportedly hits far earlier than they might expect. Reports suggest that owners run into issues with maintenance and technical performance by around the 40,000 mile mark. (https://www.hotcars.com/heres-what-alfa-romeo-owners-keep-quiet-about/#issues-with-the-axle-and-suspension-are-common) The car can run into various issues with the mode selector, often resulting in a locked suspension and powertrain that can’t be changed until it’s taken to a dealership. Coolant leaks can also be expected at around 3,000 miles, and owners can expect more and more reliability problems as the car ages.
Axle And Suspension Problems
Reports also suggest that the Alfa Romeo Giulia has experienced a number of issues with its suspension and axles. HotCars report that that issues with the mode selector can “lock the suspension and affect the car’s powertrain,” and there are also reports that the front suspension can ‘clunk’ when the car travels over small bumps. (https://www.hotcars.com/heres-what-alfa-romeo-owners-keep-quiet-about/#issues-with-the-axle-and-suspension-are-common) This causes worry for the axle and in cases where speedbumps are too harsh or the car hits a pothole, it could even lead to damage to the underside of the vehicle and require Alfa Romeo repairs.
Electrical Errors
Another fault that reportedly affects the Alfa Romeo Giulia relates to the electrical system, and often it simply comes down to the engineering. MotorBiscuit report that there are “a series of common faults with the wiring and assembly” that can cause issues for owners and drivers. (https://www.motorbiscuit.com/5-common-problems-alfa-romeo-giulia/) From a technical standpoint, there are a number of electrical problems that can affect the driving experience – many of the issues seem to relate to the battery either not charging properly, or not holding its charge, as well as failures in the stop-start system and corroded or leaking batteries.
